WHAT IS PBM & RED LIGHT THERAPY?
Photobiomodulation (PBM), also known as low-level laser therapy (LLLT) or red light therapy (RLT), is a non-invasive, light therapy treatment that uses specific wavelengths of light to stimulate collagen production, skin and joint healing, reduce inflammation, promote muscle recovery and relieve pain. It involves exposing the skin to low levels of red or near-infrared light, which is absorbed by cells and triggers various biological processes.
Red light therapy typically uses light in the red (600-700 nanometers) and near-infrared (700-1000 nanometers) spectrum. These wavelengths penetrate deep into different layers of the skin and can benefit cells and tissues, including muscles, joints, and even the brain.
When cells absorb this light, it stimulates the production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the energy currency of cells. This boost in energy production can enhance cellular repair and regeneration processes, leading to benefits such as accelerated wound healing, skin health through collagen and elastin production, reduced inflammation, and pain relief.
